It surprises me sometimes where inspiration comes from in a day when I finally sit down to write these blogs. I haven’t been writing them for my morning routine because the day is so fresh I haven’t had anything jump out at me to write about. Today I was focusing on getting edits done and planned on just editing until I decided to go to bed. My roommate and his girlfriend got home from work and said they were going to see The Lion King. A few minutes after talking about it I was invited to go and before I really said anything my roommates girlfriend bought an extra ticket. At that point I had to go. The movie was pretty damn good. It is amazing how CGI technology is these days. That shit looks real. What is that tech going to look like 25 years from now? I don’t know, but there is one thing I do know. Watching this movie as an adult is way fuckin better than as a kid. There is some deep shit in this movie! Lets Talk about it!

There are gems throughout this whole movie but I would say Mufasa and Rafiki are the main ones dropping fuck loads of wisdom. I could probably write about this all day but I’ll just pick a few. First I’ll start with this. Mufasa tells Simba:

“Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance and respect all the creatures, from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope.”

This may blow over many peoples heads here in the western world. Balance is everything. Watch Blue Planet, One Strange Rock, or Planet Earth. Each show makes it clear there is a balance on this planet among every single living thing in existence. What happens when shit gets out of homeostasis? The same thing that happens in the human body. It gets diseases. The body tries to heal itself and if it doesn’t get fed what it needs, it eventually dies. The same thing applies to the planet. Humans as a whole (in my opinion) have found a way to jump out of the circle of life. There is a difference between human potential and where we actually are as a species. We can see the lack of consciousness among the masses and it is destructive. If humans were to go extinct, earth would flourish and heal itself. We act like cancer. As smart and superior as humans think they are to everything else in existence, it raises a interesting question. How important is the human species in regards to the circle of life and the planet?

“There is a difference between human potential and where we actually are as a species.”

Next we have to talk about my boy Rafiki. He also has a few good lines in this movie. The one I want to focus on is when he says:

“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.”

I used to be one of those people who lived in the past. Let me tell you nothing good comes out of it. All it does is create your future and that is the one thing you do not want to happen. They hit on this a few times in the movie. The first time you hear about it is when Simba meets Timon and Pumbaa. Timon says:

“You gotta put your past behind ya. Look kid, bad things happen, and you can’t do anything about it, right?

This then leads into the Hakuna Matata song. I got to say It is how I pretty much live. I will use the past for reflection but I don’t stay there long. Maybe it is a super power, I don’t know. By not ever worrying about anything keeps me in a calm state. It allows me to be stress free and I always have my emotions in check. If you haven’t heard of Joe Dispenza I suggest reading his books and watching all his stuff on youtube. He will blow your mind. He explains the past is dangerous because you can think of a traumatic past event that happened years ago and put your body in the same physical stress it was under during that time. If you do this all the time during your day it puts your body in fight or flight constatnly. You don’t have to be a genius to figure out that isn’t good for you. If you take anything away from this whole post, make it be this paragraph.

There was something else that stuck out to me watching this movie. Simba had a false belief put in his subconscious mind by his dick head uncle Scar. Scar made him believe that he was responsible for Mufasa’s death. This resulted in Simba having no belief in himself. Rafiki and Nala were only two who saw his true potential. Well Nala also wanted to bang Simba so she may be a little biased. It was pretty clear she gave Simba those fuck me eyes. What she was really thinking was “come home with me daddy.” sorry, I digressed. Rafiki lead Simba to the water so he could understand that Mufasa, not only his dad, but also a mentor, was in him all along. Everything he was taught was there the whole time. In order for Simba to reach his full potential he had to believe in himself, use the tools he was taught, and be his real self. Take this and sprinkle in a little truth like Scar admitting he killed Mufasa and you get Simba turning into a lion-hulk.

How many of you can see this same situation within yourself? I definitely did. I spent six years of personal development reading books, four years learning videography, and up until not that long ago was held back by lack of belief in myself. Most of us also end up playing characters who really are not our true selves. I have done that in the past too. Good things start to happen when you overcome that. Mufasa said:

“Believe in yourself and there will come a day when others will have no choice but to believe with you.”

That is leadership right there boy. Belief is a powerfl thing. It is a double edge sword though. Belief can be used in a negative way too. An example would be organized religion. (I won’t get into details) Once you have belief in yourself things change. You are able to evolve and grow. People will start to flock towards your energy. Man, I told you this movie is better as an adult! What do you think? Were your take aways from this movie similar or do you think I am crazy? I am cool with crazy.
